Everyone has their favorite NEIL DIAMOND song and apparently so does TONY DEKKER of the Great Lake Swimmers. Dekker wrote an original music score for the powerful and moving documentary, SONG SUNG BLUE. Over 8 years in the making, SSB tells the alternately inspiring and tragic love story of LIGHTNING & THUNDER, a homegrown MILWAUKEE husband & wife singing duo who pay tribute to the music of NEIL DIAMOND.

Known for his dreamy and heartfelt vocals, DEKKER wrote and performed over 30 minutes of music for the doc, including an uplifting cover of NEIL DIAMOND’S 1972 chart topping classic, SONG SUNG BLUE for the film’s closing credits. “The honesty and emotional warmth of Tony’s music provides an intimate texture to the film’s ‘captured not contrived’ style of storytelling” said 10-time Emmy Award-winning filmmaker GREG KOHS. SSB is Kohs feature film directorial debut. BLUE is scheduled for its CANADIAN PREMIERE at the HOT DOCS International Film Festival in Toronto this April.

A big fan of GREAT LAKE SWIMMER, Kohs approached Dekker regarding the project following a gig in PHILADELPHIA. “I instantly connected with the film’s genuine nature. I had not heard of Lightning & Thunder before this, but their story resonated hugely. I love every moment of the film, and am extremely proud to be a part of” said Dekker.

SONG SUNG BLUE is a documentary feature film that tells the alternately inspiring and tragic love story of Lightning & Thunder, a homegrown Milwaukee husband and wife singing duo who pay tribute to the music of Neil Diamond.

Filmmaker Greg Kohs goes backstage into the personal lives with this brave couple - from their humble beginnings over 20 years ago to the threshold of fame, from disaster to rebirth through to the most dramatic chapters in the lives of these authentic American dreamers.

Song Sung Blue is about the uniquely American ability to invent one’s self and strive for a seemingly impossible goal. It’s about fleeting celebrity and love and about a couple who manages to maintain their passion for the stage and for one another amid the vicissitudes of life.

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) announced that PLAYSTATION3 (PS3T) and PSP(PlayStationPortable) systems along with the blockbuster hit game title, BurnoutT Paradise, from Criterion Games, an Electronic Arts studio, have been integrated into “Fast Car,” the new music video from Grammy-winning Sony BMG artist Wyclef Jean. In this unique integration, Jean and the video’s other characters utilize the PlayStation platforms to drive the video’s storyline, as they interact in a surreal world brought to life with footage from Burnout Paradise. The video will be available for download on PLAYSTATIONStore beginning on March 27 for a limited time.

“As an artist, Wyclef Jean is a great match for the PlayStation brand, and SCEA is excited about working with him on this music video because it showcases our platforms in an organic way that’s relevant to our audience,” said Peter Dille, senior vice president, marketing and PLAYSTATIONNetwork, SCEA. “We’re also looking forward to giving our PLAYSTATION Network members the opportunity to download the video in high-definition, which expands the entertainment content offering on PLAYSTATION Store.”

“EA has always been a pioneer in integrating our videogames into other forms of media,” stated Steve Schnur, worldwide executive of music for Electronic Arts. “Sony BMG has been a terrific partner in that process, and Wyclef Jean has always been an artist who is truly excited about videogames. The result is a very cool, creative collaboration that has produced a groundbreaking music video. To see Clef’s idea come to life in this innovative marriage of technology and music is a real treat,” said Mark DiDia of Columbia Records.

“Fast Car,” which features Paul Simon as a guest vocalist, is the second single from Jean’s latest hit album, “Carnival Vol. II: Memoirs of an Immigrant.” The “Fast Car” video picks up where Jean left off in the video for the chart-topping “Sweetest Girl.” The story starts with the multi-platinum artist receiving a message on his PSP system, pointing him to his next mission. From there, Jean accesses his PS3 system to enter the open world racing of Burnout Paradise, which serves as the video’s visual backdrop. Burnout Paradise is built to provide the ultimate in freedom and discovery online and offline, where players are able to create their own personal driving experience. PLAYSTATIONEye also makes a cameo appearance in the video.

“When you’re on tour, you have plenty of time, and every artist I know spends time on a tour bus with two things: PlayStation and the recording studio,” Jean said. “The PlayStation brand and Burnout Paradise fit perfectly with my vision for the ‘Fast Car’ music video. ‘Fast Car’ is like life - the pace of life is moving so fast, where you can burn yourselves out at times. The concept was about taking a song with such meaning and combining it with technology, but still keeping the essence of what we’re talking about and getting kids to listen to that message. A game like Burnout Paradise helps us get the attention of youngsters.”

Wyclef Jean directed and wrote the concept for the “Fast Car” video with collaboration from Leopoldo Gout of Curious Films.

For a limited time beginning on March 27, PS3 owners will be able to download the video in high-definition from PLAYSTATION Store, and PSP owners will be able to download the video via a PC from http://store.playstation.com. In addition to offering the “Fast Car” video, PLAYSTATION Store will also have special behind-the-scenes videos featuring an interview with Jean available for PS3 owners to download.

Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), the leading U.S. performing right organization, released its annual mobile music market projections for 2008 and figures for 2007. BMI licenses the public performing right for the musical works of its more than 375,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers.
BMI projects that ringbacktones will surpass $210 million in U.S. retail sales during calendar year 2008, up 50% from BMI’s 2007 market estimate of $140 million. A ringbacktone is a musical work that is performed to the caller when they place a call to a participating mobile subscriber.

BMI also predicted that the U.S. ringtone market will continue to decline in 2008, generating approximately $510 million in retail sales for the calendar year. This represents a $40 million or 7% reduction from calendar year 2007, marking the second consecutive year that the U.S. ringtone market has waned. BMI pegged the 2007 market at $550 million (U.S.) in retail sales, down $50 million from the prior year. The company estimates the ringtone domain experienced sales of $600 million in calendar year 2006; $500 million in 2005; $245 million in 2004 and $68 million in 2003, respectively.

BMI’s conclusions are based on comprehensive data derived from the buying behavior of more than 200 million of the current 220 million United States mobile subscribers.

“The market for ringbacktones has grown stronger than we originally forecasted last year,” said Richard Conlon, Vice President, New Media & Strategic Development, BMI. “Its growth, coupled with the positive gains that streaming mobile media have made in 2008 alone, supports our bullish point of view on the growth of the mobile entertainment business. We see gains in mobile audio and mobile television style services in the coming years as well. As we forecasted last year, the ringtone market continues to decline as the novelty phase wears off and lower-priced substitutional products come to market.”

BMI tracks titles and revenues associated with ringbacktone services, streaming audio, streaming audio visual and ringbacktone services. The company’s database of earnings and titles is believed to be the most comprehensive in the industry. BMI uses the data that it collects to distribute public performance royalties on a pro-rated basis to its affiliated songwriters, composers and music publishers.

The Global Sound Conference announced today its second annual event bringing together the world’s top sound researchers, technologists and musicians will take place May 9 - 12, 2008 at the Marina Del Rey Marriot in Los Angeles. Anchored by a visitor-friendly exhibition hall showcasing the latest in sound-based health technologies, the event features a comprehensive program of lectures and panel discussions that explore the many ways in which sound affects our lives - medically, emotionally and spiritually - and how we can use the power of sound to improve our world. Nightly concerts featuring musical superstars Sheila Chandra, Yungchen Lhamo, Rickie Byars Beckwith with the Agape International Choir and others will put a festive exclamation point on each day’s events.

With the goal of presenting a 360 degree overview of the latest developments in the study of sound, this year’s event examines aural trends in the areas of music therapy, motion picture sound design, rehabilitative audiology, acoustics, musical performance techniques and more. Participants include luminaries from across a broad range of disciplines including jazz legend Stanley Jordan, psychoacoustic expert and Through a Dog’s Ear author Joshua Leeds, top Hollywood sound designer Alan Howarth (The Spiderwick Chronicles), The Mozart Effect author Don Campbell and researcher Marilyn Schlitz of the Institute of Noetic Sciences.

“Sound impacts us on such a primal, unconscious level that we often overlook or take for granted the role it plays in our health and mindset on a daily basis,” said Alex Theory Ph.D., founder and director of the Global Sound Conference. “While sound has been used for decades as an established medical treatment in specific applications such as ultrasound, it’s only been recently that Western science has begun to produce studies establishing how sound and music influence us in other ways, particularly on a neurological level. We’re looking forward to a lively mix of cutting edge research and traditional wisdom in our discussions of how we can use sound as a tool to create practical and effective solutions to many common issues.”

For early risers, the conference kicks off each morning at 7:30 AM with an hour of guided meditation led by world renowned yoga instructor Shiva Rea in the main exhibition hall. The exhibits open at 9 AM with highlights including voice biofeedback machines, which are used (among many applications) to help the deaf improve speech quality through visual representation of correct vocalizations; and vibroacoustic sound tables, which stimulate oxygen flow within our bone marrow and are used by NASA to keep bones from weakening during space travel. There will also be food, music and personal sound healing tools such as tuning forks and crystal bowls available for purchase.

Tickets to the Global Sound Conference are available on its Web site at www.discoversound.com and offer various levels of participation - from an all access show pass to tickets for the individual concerts and workshops. Passes for individuals and families looking to spend a day viewing the exhibits on the show’s main floor will be available pre-sale online and at the door for adults $20.00, and kids under 12 free.
